A CAREER AT SEA STARTING AS A DECK HAND IS FOR YOU?

Explore a marine career working on tugboats, ferries or deep sea vessels. With funding from the Government of Canada, through the Oceans Protection Plan’s Marine Training Program, Indigenous people and women may be eligible for free or subsidized tuition, accommodation, course material and more. BCIT and our partners offer the Enhanced Bridge Watch Rating Program; the hands-on training required for a sea faring career with job placement support for graduates.

Companies and agencies such as the Canadian Coast Guard, Seaspan, Western Canada Marine Response Corporation, West Coast Launch have showed great interest in hiring students that have completed the Bridge Watch Rating program.
